Location: New South Wales, Australia
Product: iArchive and iFerret
Application: System decommissioning, data archiving
Overview
iArchive enabled North Sydney Council to archive full system data as part of a system decommissioning project, ensuring ongoing access to historical information without reliance on legacy platforms.
The Challenge
North Sydney Council was undertaking a project to decommission an existing system.
A key requirement was to:
- Retain access to all historical system data
- Ensure data integrity and accuracy during transition
- Provide a structured way to query archived information
- Avoid ongoing reliance on the legacy system
Without a clear archival approach, there was a risk of losing access to important data or increasing complexity in the new environment.
The Solution
iPlatinum implemented an iArchive solution to extract, structure and store the Council’s historical data.
The project included:
- Review of existing data structures
- Creation of a dedicated archive database environment
- Extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) of data
- Validation, integrity checking and reconciliation
- Configuration of query functionality using standard tools
- Provision of documentation for ongoing use
The solution ensured data was preserved in a structured, accessible and reliable format.
The Outcome
- Full system data retained following decommissioning
- Ongoing access to historical information
- Reduced reliance on legacy systems
- Improved data integrity and confidence in archived information
- Simplified environment for future data access and reporting
Council has also installed iFerret to enable search across live transaction data in the new environment.
